This Republic of Suffering: Death and the American Civil War

This Republic of Suffering:Death and the American Civil War by Drew Gilpin Faust
Sobering look at the cost in human life and suffering of the Civil War. It looks at how death was approached by the soldiers, their families, their governments, and their countrymen. The book tells of how some family members tried to find their lost loved ones in order to bring them home for burials and how many were unable to find their dead family members. An interesting look at the evolution of our thoughts on death and dying that the war brought about.
